Title: False economies
Post by: Miss Demeanour on January 06, 2012, 09:03:29 AM
OK so I appreciate it is austerity measures a go go but I despair with our procurement people about, of all things , envelopes !!!

Procurement are now outsourced and so all orders have to go through a 'portal' type system .

I went to send off some letters yesterday which were responses to MP's and found all the envelopes were incapable of being stuck down , either through self adhesive methods ( preferable ) or licky licky.

After speaking to our admin section who order the stuff they confirmed they are not allowed to order anything but the cheapest through procurement.

Even if they are not fit for purpose  Banghead

So contacted procurement this morning and asked if  could we have some that actually work - trying not to be sarcastic  redface:

Their response was that storage over Christmas may have meant the glue stuff on the envelopes may have dried up  ::) - oh FFS purleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  Banghead

Cheapness does not always equate to value for money/fitness for purpose.  cussing:

I got a very good price for 2000 manilla envelopes .... I reckoned they would last me/the magazine about 2 years so I bought them. They are in the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet in my study. Within 6 months the lick and stick no longer stuck.
The cost of sellotape to stick the buggers down must, by now, have equated to the initial saving and I still have 500 left to use. Sometimes cash flow is not the most important thing  Banghead
