If binge drinking is costing that much money why not charge people who come in with alcohol related injuries. Set a limit in the same way there is a drink drive limit and anyone who is over has to pay for their treatment. rubschin:

Yes tax and duty goes towards the NHS but if the projection is accurate then by 2015 £3.8 billion will be going towards treating these drunken morons instead of going towards things like cancer treatment or drugs that NICE say are too expensive for patients no matter what their benefit may be.
I'm not saying the system should be gunning for everyone who has an unhealthy lifestyle but I think binge drinking is a valid target.

FFS!
Don't you know those figures are bollox????
So, everybody that comes into horsepickle with high blood pressure counts as a %age of an alcohol related admission....
So if some 90 year old bloke that has never drunk a single glass of booze in his life walks into A & E with hypertension it STILL counts towards their figures...

A suggestion for the NHS... Keep a closer eye on the boiler (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-16119106) It must have been a worrying time for all there, but how much has that cost?
