Serous advice. I heard about this on the wireless the other day
Have you made a will? It is important. If you go to this website you vcan find a local solicitor who wparticipates in the scheme and all you pay is £85 which goes to charity.
I am going to sort meself out tomorrow, for The Boy, like

Much depends on whether they held the ownership as "Joint Tenants" or as "Tenants in Common".
If the former then the wife's portion of the shared ownership devolves automatically to the surviving owner no matter what the will may say. If the latter then she may leave her portion to anyone she pleased ~ it would be extremely difficult to evict the old chap from his home as normally the courts would say that he is entitled to live there until he chooses to sell or bequeath his portion. I'm afraid any avaricious children may have to wait.
Owning property as Tenants in Common is a good way of avoiding inheritance tax as only the value of the portion held by the deceased at the time of her demise is assessed for the purposes of her estate.

To make it more complicated, she was a French national ... I have a feeling French law may apply rubschin:

So much will hang on where the will is lodged and the terms of ownership. I foresee M'Learned friends making £££££££s
-
... and was the property an asset of a French company, cos then she could leave it to whom she wanted rather than being distributed between the children... like. whistle:
-
All too many details to which, naturally I'm not privy. Goes to show however that you really need to sort these things out ... !

Back on topic cloud9:

Don't make a will.... just be clear about the inheritance laws and that if a will is made, someone can break it but inheritance laws are stronger.

Technically, not until we die ... which brings us right back on topic angel1

And when we do what happens next?
You can choose but you need to make it clear and since the will is not normally read until after the "funeral" best to set up your preferred arrangements at the same time as you write your will.
Personally I am donating my body to science. This means I must contact a teaching university and they will provide the necessary forms which need to be completed, signed and witnessed.
I have, of course, consulted my nearest and dearest on the matter and none have any objections.
The medical school will take the body, use it for teaching purposes for up to three years and then arrange disposal according to my wishes ie cremation or burial with whatever religious or humanitarian ceremony I desire. They will also arrange a memorial service, again of whatever type I prefer, for those who wish to attend such. The medical school will cover all costs involved thus relieving my family of any financial burden whilst providing those that feel the need the opportunity to say "Goodbye".
Frankly my reasons are mainly that I have so many things wrong with me it may be of use to future patients if the doctors get the chance to look and see before they start on live patients. Also I don't want any arguments along the lines of "He would have wanted etc......" My way takes care of all that nonsense.

rubschin: Well that seems to have killed the conversation like.
