Title: Music machine thing
Post by: GROWLER on October 05, 2011, 09:49:08 PM
Peapods or summat.  confused:
Those small flat things that nearly everyone seems to 'ave 'anging 'round their necks like, playing loads of toons apparently.

I've got a old version of one, but it's a bit fiddly and if I switch it off after i've used it, when I switch it back on, I have to listen to all the same stuff again. confused:
Don't think I've ever managed to listen to me last hour of fave stuff tbh. cry:
It was only about a  tenner 7 years ago though, so musn't grumble.

So, what's a good thingy to buy then ey? Must be simple to use and cheap, and have the ability to put all me favourite music on it.
Don't want one with those nasty little ear phone things either. Want some PROPER whoppers to hear the bass proper well good on 'Stairway To Heaven' and stuff. cloud9:

I've got one of these. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sansa-Fuze-8gb-Player-Black/dp/B0019JOD68/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1317875549&sr=1-7)

For headphones, I use the in-ear things for around the house but on the hairyplane or jellycopter I use these. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/QuietComfort%C2%AE-Acoustic-Noise-Cancelling%C2%AE-headphones/dp/B002XNJCV0/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1317875628&sr=1-8)

Still, I expect you'll buy whichever one Miss D recommends anyway...  ::)

I have 500+ CD's on it and a few thousand free downloads  whistle:  , and it's only 1/3 full. I can't get a decent radio signal in my main office so I have the ipod on shuffle all the time I'm in the office. Whatever headphones are supplied with these mp3 players you generally have to go out and buy a decent pair anyway  noooo:

Personally I can't stand iTunes . I find it too invasive,  always updating this and Quick Time that  and doesn't allow simple 'drag and drop' into the folders which I like . I know many rave about it but I seem to have made up my mind  lol:. Therefore I don't have an ipod anymore  noooo:

I have a crappy little Creative one for the gym which gets bashed around and I will getting a decent one for myself for Christmas. I like the look of the Microsoft Zune but as yet undecided  rubschin:

For obvious reasons I found ITunes too invasive, I use Windows Media player and  Dopisp  (http://www.mgtek.com/dopisp/) . Never had any problems with it, and I use  MediaMonkey  (http://www.mediamonkey.com/) (shut up Nick) for backing up, managing playlists etc

I have one of those.  If I were you I'd avoid it unless you're content to load it via iTunes (which is the way it works). In terms of toons ... Say 3 to 4 hours worth? There's no screen to identify what's playing; it just rolls through them in the order that you loaded them or shuffles them about.
I find it ok 'cos I can load what I want, when I want to whether it's tunes, spoken word, or whatever.

Anything with an 'i' in front of the name forces you to use iPlayer and buy your music from them...

An standard MP3 player (like wot I have (http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Sansa-Player-Radio-MicroSD/dp/B0019JS45O/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1318877193&sr=1-4)) is much more flexible...

PLUS it is cheaper and has twice as much memory - AND an MicroSD/SDHC slot so you can whack a load more memory (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Class-16GB-Micro-SDHC/dp/B003WIRFD2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1318877345&sr=8-2) in like....

You and BM seem to recommend them, and you two seem to know about these things, so I'm currently wavering in that direction.

I'm just not too sure about these dodgydigi things though. They get me on edge like. scared2:

I still luv me personal cassette player tbh. Ded simples, and absolutely sweet as a nut. cloud9:

But you'd have to have a rucksack to carry all the tunes you can fit in an MP3 player - better quality too... and the 'tapes' don't get all mangled up like...

Anything with an 'i' in front of the name forces you to use iPlayer and buy your music from them...

Ackchewly, that's not strictly true.  I rip any of my own CDs, those from the local library and any P2P stuff and import it into iTunes with no problem  8).  Thence onto to the Shuffle or the iPhone  ;)

However I am a gerl - which means I am capable of reading the instructions  ;)

I have only got a little square one at the moment and I want to treat myself to a decent one for Crimbo , where I can have different playlists for different things . For example the music I would listen to at the gym would be very different from what I would choose to listen to when travelling etc.

But I deffo don't want an ipod  noooo: . Had one before and absolutely detest itunes  evil:

For ear phones I use this sort.
They don't fit into the ear but rest on top, held in place by spectacle type arms that hook over each ear.
Most comfortable to wear and don't fall off but are without the "Alice Band" over yer 'ed.

Available from Amazon, Currys, Argos etc. Various makes.
