Oh he is good ~ deluded if he really thinks we'll get out of Europe any time soon ~ but good.

I'm sure he works on the principle that the more he says it... the more people believe it....

And I don't think he is entirely wrong on that... especially with the backdrop of EU meltdown....

Don't get me wrong ~ I am all for getting the fvck out of the EU completely. They need us more than we need them.

It is unfortunate that Ted Heath pissed the Commonwealth off so much when he took us into the EEC or whatever name it went by back then but I am sure that blood being thicker than water some of them will welcome us back.

But I am all for full border controls, block up the channel tunnel if necessary, our own money and our own rules. The money flocks to Switzerland, Lichtenstein et al. Why not to a fully independent UK? Bring it on says I

Think of the savings we would have if we weren't paying to belong to the EU, think of the fish we could sell to them instead of giving them, think of what our farmers could do by actually growing our own food instead of buggering about claiming subsidies which allow French farmers to sell us milk cheaper than we (or they) can produce it for.

All I am saying is that there are too many vested interests to allow it to happen any time soon. As for the EU going fully tits up ~ I can't see the Germans allowing that to happen.

UKIP may be growing but most people I ask say "Yes they agree with much of what Nigel says BUT they are not prepared to waste a vote as it will only let Tories, Labour and Libdems divi the government up between them" People blame UKIP more than anyone else for the Coalition we currently have "If only the UKIP votes had stayed with the Tories" I hear time and again.  Banghead

Until mainstream media (as opposed to www media) and the national papers in the UK pick up on all he is saying instead of having a wankfest over Cameron, Clegg and Milliband making pathetic and meaningless speeches to their own band of converts UKIP are not going to get there. Look at the TV coverage of the past three weeks + in Wales only we have of course had some programmes from the Plaid's conference. UKIP conference got so little cover it was untrue.
Prolly BM has not had the almost non-stop barrage from the "Big Three" conferences that those in the UK have been subjected to but if Nick Robinson pops up on my screen again I shall do a Growler on it!

I got to say that Nigel impresses me a great deal. He does tell it the way it is.

The Eurozone has been a complete failure. The single currency has devastated Greece, Spain and Portugal. Italy, Ireland and Cyprus are also on their way to economic oblivion. I take my hat off to the UK. I use to think the UK was just anti EU to begin with years ago but now I realize that the euro skepticism has proven to be justified. The UK was smart to opt out.

I actually hope that Greece can free itself from the EU and the Eurozone. I also hope that my beloved Cyprus opts out as well before it is too late. However, there is a political advantage in Cyprus staying in given the current status quo and occupation.

From the outside looking in, the Eurozone has been a disastrous failed experiment that has no hope of resurrecting itself.  Banghead

I stopped reading when I got to this bit: -

Quote
Error - especially in budgets the size of €130 billion - happens.

Having run a tiny business by comparison (turnover £5½M) I know that errors don't 'just happen' - it is your job to make sure they don't. You can't afford for errors to happen... Not only do you risk going broke if errors happen, the tax man is all over you at the merest whiff of misappropriation of funds...

The problem with the EU (like the UK gubberment) is that it is funded from the magic money tree - there is no risk of going broke or being punished if you piss-away a few millions of €uros...

No, I have a fundamental issue with an article which starts off by accepting that errors 'happen' and that they are therefore acceptable. That tells me all I need to know about the content and conclusions of the article.

Try telling the Inland revenue, your accountant or the VAT inspector that 'errors happen' and see where that gets you...

The article doesn't state that the errors are 'acceptable' It points out the failings of the EU budget but also crucially points out that 80% of the money is administered by the member states rather than directly from the centre. So who's actually making the errors?

Anyway it concludes with "...the EU Budget has not been "rejected" or "refused" by the auditors"  (admittedly with caveats) ~ not quite what Nigel and the headlines would have us believe. And why I pointed out that things aren't as black and white as stated.

UKIP’s electoral appeal has grown to such an extent that nearly four in 10 Brits would consider supporting the party, a new poll suggests.

In a YouGov survey for the Sun, 38% of Brits said they would “consider” voting for UKIP, with Farage’s party on a record 12% poll rating, equal with the LibDems.

This comes after UKIP dramatically came in second in the Eastleigh by election.

hmm don't really do politics here, more for the somewhere else I frequent

But if you read their manifesto, Europe is the populist policy (Trojan Horse) and views will vary on that (I'm off the plan A = fix it persuasion) but the interesting thing about UKIP is their other policies.  They are the only significant party to have campaigned to take individual rights back to the 1930s or even earlier.  In effect their manifesto was the most repressive making BNPs look almost liberal by comparison.

And I'm suspicious that's been their agenda all along.

Barroso doesn't have a clue, green issues aside governments have had years to promote the 'benefits' of being part of the EU. If they haven't been able to convince us by now how can he think it can be done in the months left before the election.

First few minutes are good, got to give him huge credit for being the only party leader to actually defend energy companies making a 5% profit.

Will watch (captions) or listen to the rest later

Update:  he was better than normal but at 24minutes in he tells a whopper

Quote from: Nigel Farage
60% of private sector jobs are provided by companies with less than 10 employees

The true figure is 32.4% and you have to include companies up to 250 employees to get up to 59% http://www.parliament.uk/briefing-papers/SN06152.pdf (http://www.parliament.uk/briefing-papers/SN06152.pdf)

He also said that Wind Power produces zero when the wind'sreally  blowing.  Now I may hate the damn things but the facts are that they were producing over 2GW (over 5% of UK consumption) at the height of Monday's storm and in tonights windy conditions are producing over 5GW right now.

http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/download.php (http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/download.php)

He's way too quick to throw out untrue but populist quotes just to win popularity.  He also ends with his vision of most UK workers having no employment protection whatsoever and that's more than a little sus.

Oh he repeated that lie about the cat and invented imaginary populations for Bulgaria and Romania too.  NF: a smile, a joke, a fact, a lie.  Repeat until enough taken in.

A decent interview host would have shredded him

You should check your figures too...

You can't have your 32.4% figure on one hand and then claim that "most UK workers having no employment protection"...

Having employed 45 people I'm completely with him on the employment protection thing... Current employment legislation is a complete nightmare... Honestly, I would NEVER employ anybody ever again....

And he's right about wind turbines - they don't produce power when there is too little or too much wind - the fact they produced 2GW (only 20% of the installed capacity) during the storm somewhat proves the point doesn't it....? You would hope that when it was really windy they would be spinning around like tops and your lekky meter would be going backwards.... Of course the don't, they have to feather the blades to protect the gearbox...

For me, it was a great interview...

No need.  He clearly wanted us to assess his submission on the (incorrect) understanding that 60% of workers were in businesses of 10 or less.  He then wanted us to accept stripping all employment protection from employees of such businesses.  So he's wanting to persuade us to remove all employment protection from 60% of all workers.

Err yes he can

He introduced a false stat to ry and show how UK business was so different to the EU

He then said he wanted to remove all protection from employees of such businesses.  It's dead fair to assess his idea in the conditions of the stat he wanted us to use.  Or are you saying we should let him off for being a fibber?

Well.... for you it is clearly case closed and the man can say/do no right in your eyes....

For me, I'd be tempted to look more closely at the figures before writing him off on this one... just as I did on the wind farm claim....

As it turns out he was right and you were wrong - even when it is blowing like fuck windy millers don't produce their rated capacity... or perhaps some did and some were useless because it was too windy....

Personally, I don't think for a second that he would pull the 60% figure out of his arse...

When did I say they produce their rated capacity when it's windy?

He was the one that said they produce ZERO and the stats say he's wrong

And when did I say "the man can say/do no right"

If you look back I said no such things and I even gave him credit but even his biggest fan would have to admit he's gaff and fib prone.

Well, given the storm was patchy to say the least....

...and given that during the storm (the windy storm when it was really windy and there was plenty of wind) all the windy millers produced only 20% of their rated capacity...

... I for one am willing to believe that some of them produced zero...

Sorry, I thought it was established fact that windy millers had to be feathered when the wind exceeded certain speeds....

I think picking him up on that point proves the other... ;)

Farage has just had to sack the guy that appears 1 minute in

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-27151509 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-27151509)

He's arguably the only true leader in the UK parties but jeez he's struggling to get a team he can trust to boil an egg

Oh dear...

Sadly, he does need a squeaky-clean team as everything the part does is put under such scrutiny... It is amazing how many smear articles there are in the MSM at the moment.

I can't help but think if they bothered to analyse the output of the other parties in the same detail they'd find the same thing....

Worth watching his slot on BBC breakfast today (starts 8.12 am if it's on iPlayer)  again he was excellent.  He actually pretty much echoed what I said ^ saying that builder's odious comments were repellent, that something had gone very wrong and he would launch an inquiry etc.

Nigel's had a very good 6 months.  He's cleared out some of UKIPs worst people and policies, surprised most by trouncing Clegg and as I said he is the only real leader in any of the major parties.  But if he really wants to move on from a probable EU election triumph then he is going to have to get a team around him that he can trust and most importantly are not at home to Mr Cock-Up.

It will be interesting after the Euro elections.... I wonder if some MPs might consider swapping sides....

A good read but I disagree, this decision matters.  For us not to veto Juncker as is would be dishonest.

If only Lagarde wanted the job but seems she doesn't.

Nigel's reaction to this should be corking. The EU, in it's infinite wisdom, has decided that what the public needs to get back behind the project is an official sash with the EU flag on it. Because that's what we really need isn't it, forget the rampant corruption, arrogance and sheer ineptitude of most of the establishment all the problems that the public see within the EU can be solved by wearing a scrap of fabric that you too can own for the bargain price of £107.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/10960379/MEPs-encouraged-to-wear-official-sash-of-European-Parliament.html (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/10960379/MEPs-encouraged-to-wear-official-sash-of-European-Parliament.html)

Quote
"Why shouldn't our MEPs dress up too? This is the world's first transnational parliament and it is special," said an official.

Hmm I think I'll field that one for you, perhaps its because there is a large and growing portion of the electorate in EU states that are sick of the cost and arrogance of the establishment. Realising that with each passing day it matters less and less who they vote for in elections as the unelected leadership of the EU (and let's be honest here, the public can elect MEP's but they are then unable to have any input on critical positions such as EU president which is decided by the blocs who decide what best suits their own interests and not necessarily those of the electorate).

So yes, if you think that wearing a scrap of fabric can fix all the problems and make everyone love the EU project then go right ahead, I can sell you some rose tinted spectacles to go with them. But the MEP's can pay for this out of their own pockets, god knows between the pay and benefits they certainly earn enough to afford them.

A lot easier to read it here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-30384758 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-30384758)

and search for Farage or Brand.  Looks like each will have won with their own supporters but Farage will have looked better to the middle ground

I see someone's stats haven't got any better though

"In 1990 the population of this country was 55 million. It is now between 62 and 63 million and that is a massive increase."

It was 55 million in 1967 Nigel, it's now just over 64 million.  (Long story why I knew that)

Paywalled....  evil:

 point:

It's all in the opening sentence "Nigel Farage is a game-changing politician and The Times Briton of the Year"

I'd say the article is a double edged sword as it goes on to say he was 2010's big loser and 2014's big winner but the big question will be 2015.  Last 2 paras:

Quote
. . . The established political parties have not been able to ignore Ukip, however, whatever they may think of its more toxic members. Just as in the first half of the parliament Mr Farage’s threat to the Tory vote forced Mr Cameron to promise an EU referendum, his advances in 2014 have forced Mr Miliband to pay more attention to the concerns of heartland Labour voters who worry about immigration.

The year 2014 may turn out to be Ukip’s high point. As the general election approaches, surging support for the Scottish nationalists could elbow Mr Farage from the limelight. After the election he may decide to spend more time with his cigarettes and pints. For the moment, however, no one did more to shape British politics in 2014. For good and ill he is therefore The Times Briton of the Year

I'd copy and paste it all but irritatingly it'll take multiple copies the way they've mixed it up

Bad news for Nigel?  Al Murray/Pub Landlord to stand against Nigel Farage (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-30819779)

He has an Manifesto (http://thepublandlord.com/)

Quote

The Guv's common sense message to the UK

I, Al Murray - The Pub Landlord, intend to stand in the general election for the hotly contested Kent constituency of South Thanet as part of the Free United Kingdom Party. My 13-point common sense action plan to save this country includes:

•   The pound in your pocket
The pound will be revalued at one pound 10p, so it will now be worth 10p more. Common sense.

•   The NHS
If you come to A&E and it’s neither an accident nor an emergency then you will be sent to a random hospital department to be practised on. Common sense.

•   Foreign Policy
Germany has been too quiet for too long. Just saying.

•   Immigration
Of course the reason they are coming here is because this is the greatest country in the world. The only way to stop them is for a government to change that and make things a whole lot worse. Look no further. However, in the meantime, we brick up the Channel Tunnel. With British bricks. Probably have to get some Poles in to do it. Common sense.

•   Education
I believe the children are the future and there’s no way you'll get me knocking teachers. Teachers are on the front line, coalface. Doing their bit to create a level playing field for our kids, although I'm not sure they're going about it the right way by making sure none of the kids can read and write. So instead of a postcode lottery a new improved Street Raffle will determine which schools your kids get in to. Common sense.

•   Scotland
Alex Salmond to be made First Minister for Norwich, so he can get to understand what being ignored by the rest of the country is really like. Common sense.

•   Europe
I pledge that the UK will leave Europe by 2025 and the edge of the Solar System by 2050. Common market sense. In the meantime Greece to be bought and operated by Kent County Council. Couldn’t be worse. Someone to do the bins at least.

•   The environment
Boris Johnson to be put on an island. He keeps saying that’s what he wants.

•   Corporations and Globalisation
Blah blah blah blah blah paradigm blah blah blah, blah blah dialectic blah blah blah blah blah blah game-changer.

•   Homes for hard working families
Build some houses but without bringing down house prices. How hard can it be?

•   Defence
National Service, but only for people who don’t want to do it.

•   Law and Order
Unemployment causes crime: I propose to lock up the unemployed. Common sense.

•   On Local issues
South Thanet to be made the new capital of the UK. Demilitarised zone to set-up between North and South Thanet.

I think that is bollox and a mistake in my humble opinion....

"Amend the smoking ban to give pubs and clubs the choice to be smoking or non-smoking." would be much better...

...all this bollox about ventilation, separate rooms and staff not allowed to enter while in use promotes the myth that SHS is dangerous.... And will lead to more bans and restrictions....

Well the UKIP manifesto is out:  http://ukip-serv.org/theukipmanifesto2015.pdf (http://ukip-serv.org/theukipmanifesto2015.pdf)

Much much better than their 2010 horror, looks like Carswell's wisdom is having an effect.  But do the numbers add up?

They say this independent review says they do (https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/ukipdev/pages/1087/attachments/original/1429092458/thefiscalplan.pdf?1429092458)

IMHO it's neutral so leaves us with the current £90B a year deficit and climbing debt

Yay!

Just shows the lack of depth at the UKIP top.   Their one true heavyweight (Carswell) has said he doesn't want the leadership (there have been rumours of him quitting UKIP) so what option did UKIP have?

This U turn by Farage says nothing bad about him but there is a bitter realpolitik to consider.  Never give someone a chance to lose a second general election.   It rarely ends in smiles.

We must have watched different shows!  ;D

I thought she did really well.... given the socialist audience (and panel) I thought she got her points over well and scored with the audience - which is what it is obviously all about...

I found the rest of the panel nauseating... Chuka presents himself well and comes across as a professional but he is vacuous... I can't bear to listen to him for more than a few minutes - It has taken me all day to get through the show in easily digestible bits...

Again, we will have to agree to differ - I thought she was a clear winner.

Did you not think her compulsive need to bellow preprepared phrases loudly over everybody else betrayed that she was (a) grossly uncouth and (b) frightened of real debate?

And yes apart from Chuka the rest of the panel was bad

Nope. I didn't think that at all...

And she was actually silent for the greater part of the show (IMHO)...

Faced with an audience baying for rent controls and taxing 'the bankers'... I thought she did remarkably well... lol:

I have to agree with every word he said, even though I am not  fan of UKIP. I actually voted for the EEC as an economic community. That still makes sense. But not a corrupt and unaccountable federal europe stroke fourth reich. Germany needs imported labour because of its very low birth rate.

Will be interesting to see Nigel's reaction to this if it does go ahead as Cameron will have pretty much handed the out campaign the vote winner.

Well seems the innumerate man with a pint has gone even further with his vendetta

Suzanne Evans suspended from UKIP (http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/mar/23/ukip-suzanne-evans-suspended-disloyalty-nigel-farage)

Apparently it's a ruse to ensure she doesn't get a role on the London Assembly.  A simpler plan would be just to not vote UKIP.  Her ability to talk sense was one of the few good things about that party

Now what's the betting they'll soon lose their one MP?

And this time he promises he won't change his mind just like last time he promised he wouldn't change his mind.

Would we have had a referendum without Nigel?  We'll never know.  He peaked spectacularly in 2014 which helped force that manifesto promise by Cameron so it's arguable

Hard to see a big role for UKIP now anyway so probably wise for him to step down but what will he do now?   Doing the maths bit on Countdown is so not his forte.

He certainly deserves a break but he's left UKIP in a right mess just when they need strong leadership.

That '52:48 requires a second referendum' comment he made was going to be awkward for him over the next months and it's hard to escape the conclusion his timing is cynically designed to frustrate Suzanne Evans who is still suspended

Juncker is an arse.  Put out a statement saying the issue is for Spain to deal with as an internal matter and then in the very same statement makes contentious pronouncements about it.
