Digital Voice Changeover

(1/1)

Steve:
A Commons rant

Anyone else like me was not aware of this until this week?

Well it seems by 2025 BT and Openreach intend to turn off all the analog phone network and they're rolling out the changes already.  I got my letter yesterday.  What they plan to do is turn off all your current landline phone sockets and let you plug one landline phone into your broadband Home Hub.

The only excuse they will let you have for saying 'no' is if you have a burglar alarm that uses the current landline and even then they only say they will allow you a delay

Well f**k right off BT

For a start in 2018 BT you told OfCom that you would expect to provide everyone with an uninterruptible power supply so your phone still works during a power cut and indeed OfCom still say they very much have to but BT aren't promising any more.

Then there's the issue that BT tend to install FTTP (Full Fibre) Home Hubs in the place that suits them and not where you might actually want your phone to be.  They say they will provide one Digital Voice Adapter that might (or might not) extend the range (you also have to give up yet another mains socket as they've skimped on the design by not proving mains passthrough)

And if you've previously paid BT to install 4 phone outlet sockets then apparently they think that's not something they have to offer anymore, you wasted your money on their promises.

So please be aware.  Meantime I'm going to fight this (I don't expect to win but might get more concessions)

We had this a while ago...  rubschin:

Don't have a phone line here in the apartment but in the Big House they turned up and wired the 'Land Line' to the VOIP connection on the router praps 3 years ago...?

But we cancelled the 'Land line' when the new tenants arrived a year ago - nobody uses a 'Land Line' here...  noooo:
