Ashes Decider
« on: August 21, 2009, 01:14:11 PM »
This one is for all you cricket fans....

At the end of Day 1, England was looking rather shaky after a good start. The score was 8/307.

At this point in time (Day 2 first session), England are 9/329. Have to say that Australia is looking pretty good but it is still early days.

So what are your predictions? Can England defeat Australia and take the Ashes?  whistle:

Of course ~ while there is life there is hope.

At the moment we are off for rain

England 332 all out

Australia 61/0 (20.2 ov)

Australia trail by 271 runs with 10 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Match delayed by rain - Day 2

Wow..didn't realize that the telecast in Australia was delayed.

I hate pay TV...as they have hijacked all the good sporting events.  ::)

I don't think rain suits England as they need to win it. Australia retains the Ashes if there is a draw...  whistle:

I hope the rain stops because there is nothing worse than a rain effected cricket game...at least England will have a shot at challenging Australia..

Careful MissD ...  ;)

Being only minutes from the ground, I can tell it's bright sun and clear blue skies now. I did however get a bit rained on about an hour ago  noooo:

I know it is and until you understand this poem you'll never understand the attraction of cricket.

Quote
There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night --
Ten to make and the match to win --
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

The sand of the desert is sodden red, --
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; --
The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks:
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

This is the word that year by year,
While in her place the School is set,
Every one of her sons must hear,
And none that hears it dare forget.
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame,
And falling fling to the host behind --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

Sir Henry Newbolt (1862-1938)

It's a boring game....of standing around with nothing much happening ...getting grass stains on your white trousers ( whoever thought that was a good idea) .....waiting for the blessed relief of rain to at least go inside and watch something interesting on the telly.....shouting Howzat every now and then just to keep the spectators awake  noooo:

Is that careful enough Pastis  lol: lol: lol:

I was offered a ticket for tomorrow - Vodafone hospitality and all that. Unfortunately I couldn't make it.
