Should Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi have been released?
« on: August 20, 2009, 09:28:07 PM »
The Libyan man jailed in Scotland for blowing up a US airliner over Lockerbie in 1988, has arrived back in Libya after being set free.
The Scottish government released Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, who is 57 and has terminal cancer, on compassionate grounds.
US President Barack Obama said the move was "a mistake", and some relatives of US victims reacted angrily.

He has apparently been greeted as a hero.   noooo:

The message is that if you are a high profile prisoner and have a terminal disease then they do not want you dying in prison ( Biggs and now Al Megrahi).

However his conviction has always been dubious and based more on the fact that they had to identify someone to pin this on and pacify certain nations.

Mr Obama may be very visible in protesting about the injustice of all this but is doing very little to resolve the injustices that are continuing at Guatanemo noooo:

Americans are well known for their ludicrously vicious sentencing policies ~ E.G. 999 years FFS ~ they know that no-one will ever serve that long so why even bother to pass such a sentence.

The Yanks agreed that this man should be tried under Scottish Law ~ tough titty you bigoted arseholes. Don't start complaining now.

Then of course there is the matter of whether he actually committed the crime and there does seem to be a large element of doubt over that no matter what the court in Holland felt. Take a look at the review conducted by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (all 800 pages and four years of investigation) has to say about it.

IMHO He was offered up by the Libyans as a sacrificial goat. I think those who are not blinded by having their heads so far up their own Yankee arses can see that.

Agree, he may have been involved but there had to have been others up to and including governments. There is evidence that the Iranians were involved and remember that the the USA did shoot down an Iranian airliner only a few months earlier killing all 290 on board.

A royal visit to Libya is being reconsidered after the welcome given to the Lockerbie bomber on his return to the country, the BBC understands.

The Foreign Office is reviewing plans for Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, to meet senior figures and promote trade.

The visit - planned for early September - now seems unlikely to go ahead

What a cop out.......  noooo: noooo: noooo:

What makes you think Prince Andrew just doesn't fancy going ....he prolly has another round of really tiring golf to play  ::)

I dreamt last night that Mrs Nick had opted for euthanasia, but that the injection kept getting delayed as she was looking at herself in a mirror all the time to say goodbye to herself.

She told me it was 'wishful thinking'  eveilgrin:
