second hand book sellers

I want a complete three book set of Simon Schama's History of Britain in hardback for a present and I want to get them all from one place. Who do you lot use for second hand books?

Haven't used them but I've used many 2nd hand sellers on Amazon. I usually click their details to check if they're first timers which I avoid.

Failing that a friend of mine's son sells 2nd hand on the South Bank market, I think on a Sunday...  whistle:

Oh well ~ you can't blame a chap for trying.

Abe Books are pretty good ~ their biggest fault is that having used them they email you weekly with another "find" of whatever it was you bought, or at least that has been my experience. Obviously you have tried Amazon. Try The Book People (Google them)

Can't understand why he wants a set of history books written from a one sided point of view by a known shirt lifter ~ but each to their own I suppose.

Actually I do have the set and would rate it ** at best. Schama isn't really very good as a historian and a lot of the work in the books seems to have been done by BBC researchers as they are a direct rip off from the TV series he presented. For a superficial history covering a long period they are OK but too many unsupported opinions and not enough source material for the serious student. Perhaps I am letting my personal antipathy toward Schama cloud my judgement but I don't rate the man as a serious historian.
