Key mental health unit to close
« on: December 17, 2007, 07:39:21 AM »
Another week, another disaster...  noooo:

Quote from: BBc Web SWhite
Psychiatrists say a decision to close a unit which offers unique help to people with complex mental health problems will harm vulnerable patients.

The NHS trust which has ordered the closure says it made the decision "with great sadness".

Great sadness my arse!  cussing:

How long before a mental kills someone because of this closure?  Banghead

The Henderson is fairly near to me and the local papers are having a field day with this. There used to be other institutions nearby but these were knocked and prisons built. Wonder what the odds are that this land will also be sold.

Places like Cane Hill and Netherne have been sold off for development - none of that money has been used to build new facilities.

The lady in charge of the place gave a good interview on R4 this morning – she said they did spend millions on new facilities… and then shut them down.

Unfortunately thay are shutting the psychiatric ward/unit (can't remember its name) at Sutton General (almost next door to the Henderson) - there will be no local facilities left at this rate.

I used to live near there as well, a bit further north towards Sutton, by Ventor Road.
Always remember the strange hospitals/institutions over the other side of Banstead Downs as well.

Rampton?

Never knew their names. Sometimes when we were on the Downs the police would come along and tell us to go home - someone had escaped.

Long gone now, prisons in thier place.
