Thanks a bunch Dell and Microsoft
« on: March 18, 2016, 04:45:51 PM »
Had a 'critical' windows update yesterday which has buggered my computer up. Booting up normally end up with a working mouse and a black screen while booting up in safe mode shows is stopping at loading classpnp.sys before finally getting to a desktop.

Tried all the standard fixes (sfc, startup repair, restore point etc) and none of them work. After looking online it seems that this has been a fairly common problem in the past and having already tried the suggested fixes I need a windows disk to fix it. Went on to the Microsoft site to download a Windows 7 ISO to be told that my serial key is for a specific build by Dell and that I have to contact them. Dell have told me that because this is an old machine and is out of cover I can't get a disk.  cussing:

A trip into town to buy a new copy of Windows beckons, the only bright side I can see to this is that I can get rid of all the Dell bloatware shite that this thing came with.

How about phoning Microsoft and say you'll report them for distributing malware unless they provide a fix

(not sure who you'd report them to but hopefully they wouldn't ask)
Well, whatever, nevermind

Computer is back and speedy quick now that I've got a fresh install and no Dell bollocks to take up resources.  cloud9:

The guys also confirmed that I can upgrade the processor to a quad core, up to now all the info I"d found didnt match up as it was one of Dell"s own mobos.  Thumbs:
