Not Kipping nor even Kipling but what is your favourite cake?
« on: January 28, 2013, 09:33:19 AM »
As a kid I adored my Grandmother's homemade Marmalade Cake and when I visited her, after school for my tea, she also used to have real Hovis bread but the best treat was the Lardy Cake she used to buy from the same baker as the Hovis. Once I had eaten my fill Grandfather would take me to watch the footy.
Happy Days!  cloud9:

Can't buy Lardy Cake around here...... In fact it is years since I had any and then it came as a disappointment .... not at all as I remembered it.

My mum's Victoria Sponge cake. She could never get it to rise properly; we used to call it cheesecake. Yummy though.

In the last village we lived in I made and entered a Victoria Sponge in the annual fete's cake making comp. Came first!  Shocked: ..... Beating the President of the local WI into second place ~ first time she had not won in years. The following year the Victoria Sponge comp was dropped as a specific category so I entered the Scones category and won again...... Woodstock got so much flack at the WI after that she banned me from entering again.

The trick is to wrap your tongue round it. Take each side in turn and lick the cream first then bite into the cake ...... Mind you'll still end up with sticky fingers.  whistle:

The only cake we had at home was my mums cake with current and burnt edges.  I am sure she made one every week and my task was to avoid it.  I prefer desserts to cake.   Not sure if it fits but when I am in the Loire Valley on holiday I get an almond croissant which has custard inside.  Delicious.

Sorry Tipsy but I had to do it before either DS or Nick had a seizure.
