Title: The VP Bucket List
Post by: Grumpmeister on July 08, 2014, 03:05:05 PM
For the first on the list of crazy things we wouldn't normally consider but should do before we kick the bucket I give you Zumanjaro

30 seconds to climb and then drop 41 storeys in under 10 seconds at speeds of 90 mph?  eeek: HELL YEAH!!

http://youtu.be/N79JKDtK4hg (http://youtu.be/N79JKDtK4hg)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2679117/Watch-ride-Zumanjaro-worlds-tallest-fastest-drop-ride-Six-Flags.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2679117/Watch-ride-Zumanjaro-worlds-tallest-fastest-drop-ride-Six-Flags.html)

Marley can stay on the ground and get the beers in for when we get off.

To make you feel even better Apey, if Zumanjaro is on the list then Kingda Ka has to be as well seeing as Zumanjaro is built on to the side of the arch.   eveilgrin:

Quote
When the train is in position, the hydraulic launch mechanism accelerates the train from 0 to 128 miles per hour (0 to 206 km/h) in 3.5 seconds.[2] At the end of the launch track, the train climbs the main tower (or top hat) and rolls 90 degrees to the right before reaching a height of 456 feet (139 m).[3] The train then descends 418 feet (127 m) straight down through a 270-degree right-hand spiral. The train climbs the second hill of 129 feet (39 m), producing a moment of weightlessness before being smoothly brought to a stop by the magnetic brakes; it then makes a left-hand U-turn and enters the station. The ride lasts 28 seconds from the start of the launch

But you can achieve the same thing in a stationary simulator... I don't see why you would need to add the visuals to a roller-coaster.... Shrugs:

True, I spent a decent amount of time on the Sea King simlator at RNAS Culdrose when I was a kid and saw that you didn't even need to have  the hydraulics on for the scenery to bugger up your balance after a while.

I suppose that the VR headsets make it a cheap way to change the rollercoaster ride. If say flying in a battle stopped being popular you chould easily change the program to riding on a dragon and hey presto new ride available.  rubschin:

But again, you can do it in a sim - no need to build a roller-coaster....

It can be flying a Spitfire one day, the Red Arrows the next and a dragon the day after....

But you can't beat the thrill of thinking you might just fall out of the harness and die....

Sorry Grumpmeister can't agree with captive dolphin sharks and whales etc.

I suppose one of my Bucket List things would be to see an end to any animals in captivity except under exceptional circumstances.

The slide with the sharks was only one of the ones mentioned and I doubt I'd go there for the same reason. There are some circumstances that I agree with animals in captivity such as trying to breed an endangered species so that it can be reintroduced into it's natural environment or if it is somewhere like the Cornish Seal Sanctuary who treat injured animals, releasing them back into the wild where they can or taking the best care possible when that isn't an option.

Do a tandem jump - no real training required and it is as good as the real thing as far as free-fall goes....  Thumbs:

The more I think of it the more I can see the potential for one hell of an attraction for the adrenaline junkie brigade. Snake a glass slide around the top few floors of a bloody tall building but have the end of it facing away and into thin air. Strap on a parachute and go from extreme glass slide to base jump.  Thumbs:

Could make an absolute fortune, just need to find somewhere with really tall skyscrapers and very relaxed 'elf and safety laws.  rubschin:

Precisely.

Two exhausting hours of falling off the bastard thing, climbing back on, hauling the sail out of the water with a rope that gives you blisters the size of the R101 and then falling off again...  noooo:

And then, when you finally 'master' it and manage to balance on the bastard thing for more than 5 seconds the sail fills and takes you off in completely the wrong direction.  Banghead

So a wingsuit flight ending with landing inside a moving plane... Something tells me I'd be more likely to go head first through the propeller but I'd give it a shot.

How cool!

But I have a book called Sky Call (?) that I bought some *thinks* 35+ years ago when I was jumping every week which shows this happening...

Back then they had 'balloon suits' rather than wing suits that inflated after leaving the aircraft. They didn't have as much lift or control as the modern wing suits but the introduction of turbine powered aircraft to sky diving meant that the plane they jumped out of could dive vertically without over cooling the engine and the jumpers could 'fly' back into the plane 10,000 feet lower than they left it...
