Title: Drain Problems...
Post by: Barman on February 13, 2013, 07:33:56 AM
They are putting new drains in our street...

The old ones are full of shite and rather than clean them out they have decided to put new ones in - money being no object and everything... ::)

So they dig up the road and put the new pipes in - they sit them on a bed of gravel then pour concrete over them to seal them up...

(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs11.postimage.org%2Fs6ydumh33%2FDSCN0332.jpg&hash=85b7c1e587c7467e4646463cff4055cd0171b1eb) (http://postimage.org/image/s6ydumh33/)

They have worked all the way up the street - filling in behind them as they go. Now all they have to do is connect the new drain to the old one that continues on up the road...

(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs8.postimage.org%2Fdgizxweq9%2FDSCN0330.jpg&hash=f83074feef3b5f443ab39e247136e3d34bf8dfff) (http://postimage.org/image/dgizxweq9/)

Oh... doh:

Good job the Channel Tunnel diggers were a bit more accurate....  noooo:

This is just for rainwater...  noooo:

They are supposed to be digging up the entire village to put mains sewers in (EU regulations), what a cluster fuck that is likely to be....  ::)

 lol: lol: lol:

When they put new lecky cables in our road they just dug up the pavement with both cars on the drive - didn't even knock on the door to ask if we wanted to move them... Three days stranded.

I got my Mini wheels done over in Paigia somewhere - it took me hours to find the guy (and eventually had to drive across a field) because everything was dug up - he said he didn't know which way he would have to go to get to work in the morning or home again in the evening....  lol:

And yes, this new pipe thing will go right across the end of our cul-de-sac... ::)

On the principle of cast the first stone I should STFU taking the mick (P?) out of others sewers

As far as I know the one in ur road has only overflowed 3 times into the garden 2 doors down.

You couldn't make it up...

They dug that trench in the first picture so close to one of the power poles it started to fall over... They had to prop it up with bits of wood....  noooo:

And those blue pipes contain 11KV power cables... god knows what will happen there...  scared2:

Still working on the drains in our road - we haven't been cut off from the outside world... yet...

They have gone down so deep now that they need a nice, safe Cypriot ladder to get to the bottom... ::)

Still, at least the site is completely secure so there is no risk of anybody falling down the hole...  noooo:

You can see where the ladders come from now!

Why buy a ladder when there are plenty of bits of 'formwork' (we call it shuttering, the man who does it is called a galobshe which means literally 'mould') lying around...? Shrugs:

The wood just gets smaller and smaller until they eventually burn it at the site to make their coffee - completely recycled!  Thumbs:

So, how do you fix the problem of the two pipes that don't meet...?
(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs17.postimage.org%2F7k6vj6ta3%2FDSCN0394.jpg&hash=872ceaf5f8a0525e2e8a46a07454542cc0224646) (http://postimage.org/image/7k6vj6ta3/)

Well, you pile up some owld rocks on either side of the hole...
(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs22.postimage.org%2Fxhvgklvst%2FDSCN0401.jpg&hash=6a5464c375a4159705ac11c0c2016b603787486e) (http://postimage.org/image/xhvgklvst/)

Then you put an bit of owld corrugated iron on top - with a plastic pipe for a drain inspection hole...
(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs24.postimage.org%2Ffzs0x86zl%2FDSCN0406.jpg&hash=4ebe2933aecf604418b36e5ac5192902db7b3b8e) (http://postimage.org/image/fzs0x86zl/)

And then you make a mould for a concrete 'cap' for the hole...
(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs23.postimage.org%2F7ymmhnyon%2FDSCN0407.jpg&hash=eb7434a7439539bcf9da88d5023fb06c1d9ccd28) (http://postimage.org/image/7ymmhnyon/)

And then you liberally dose the whole thing with concrete...

If they've arched it, yes, but it needs to be secure. T'other way is if they've seated it on brickwork (or more wood  lol: ) and surrounded it with mortar overnight (sort of been there, done that like  ;) )

Or DUCK tape

we almost have mains sewagery system

It's only gone badly wrong 3 times since we've lived here.  If I live to be 100 I will never forget the smell.  Still that grass at no 7 don't half grow green

My village is at the top of a hill.... I dread to think where it all goes...  noooo:

They have been 'working' on it again today... ::)

First they dumped tonnes of water on it from this tanker with a strange arrangement of wheels...  rubschin:

Then they rollered it all down with a vibrato-roller thing...
(https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs21.postimage.org%2Fkpdd8561f%2FDSCN0517.jpg&hash=51992781ff846ce29b0e6767256f854ac027823e) (http://postimage.org/image/kpdd8561f/)

Then they buggered off... ::)

Interesting to watch the traffic coming up the road and realising at the last minute that there is a 2" deep trench across the road...  noooo:

It turns out that the 'Inspection pipe' is in fact a drain... not sure if it was supposed to be a drain or just ended up in the gutter instead of in the middle of the pavement...  noooo:

All due to H & S but rightly so in this case. Lots of users suffer from HAVS (hand/arm vibration syndrome) and vibration white finger due to nerve endings being damaged. You can still use plant like that but they have vibration reduction measures built into them, and we have to limit the use of them and record duration they are used per day (claim culture)

Some officials turned up last week and inspected the work... but didn't unblock the drain...
