Post by: Steve on February 13, 2013, 07:57:21 PM
A thread so Growler and apc and ?? can cheer on Real Madrid tonight and further abuse as time goes on

But while we're holding on, what a cracking save by de Gea just now.  With arms like that he wouldn't need a chimney sweep

2-1 to us, and out.

Season is now over, and at this rate, we'll be lucky to finish in the top 15.

Absolutely dire watching them.

Got the mighty Swansea on Sunday.
They've beaten us twice already this season, and the third lesson will be a 0-2 win to them I reckon.

Post by: Steve on February 15, 2013, 09:17:28 AM
He did look on the verge of a breakdown.  Again not being able to play Sturridge is the issue

Anyway aggregate summary of the night:

Johnny Foreigners:   3
Blighty blokes*:       3

So we lost Tuesday and drew both Weggy and Thursday.  It's just not good enough.  When do the gooners play?

* with a few (well quite a lot really) of guest foreigners

I seriously think he must be, and that's not good. noooo:

I mean, just HOW could he describe that shambles as a "near perfect" result? confused:

It's not the first time his fuses appear to have been blown eiother...all this crap he was spouting about possibly finishing 2nd!
He and the club are currently a major laughing stock. Most supporters of other teams have actually stopped laughing at us weary LFC supporters now though, yes, they are actually starting to feel sorry for us. redface:

The VAST majority of LFC fans I speak to, feel much the same.
We are battle weary, and sick of listening to the same purile excuses, and seeing our multi million pound team fannying around and achieving nothing, that's all.

I'll support LFC forever regradless, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be a permanently  jolly happy smiley supporter doing so.

Yep

What can Rooney do?

As for the red card I'm not sure, can see why it was given in a European game.

Modric goal was indeed a cracker but he was given the space too easily

Stupid stupid panic reaction to a debateable sending off.  The team should be made to watch last years Barcelona v Chelsea over and over again.  FFS United won the World Club Championship final a few years ago with only 10 men.

The nearly taking his arm off row rages on on 5 live ffs! Banghead

IT WAS DANGEROUS PLAY, REGARDLESS IF IT WAS INTENTIONAL OR NOT.
GET A GRIP AND MOVE ON.

Even Roy Keane agrees on that one, and as for that slimey portugese arse hole,Ronaldo, what a friggin' tit with his muted celebration. sad32: lol:

Good to see 'Fergie Added Time' is still alive and kicking too btw. ::)
The whole thing was a bloody pantomime, with the oldl beetroot faced chewing one looking as though he was on the verge of instant combustion! happy001

That Ferdinand cretin(was it) should have been red carded for his sarcastic clapping right in front of the refs face at the end of the match too.
Title: Re: European Football
Post by: Snoopy on March 06, 2013, 09:24:06 AM
Not sure if Turkish Refs do sarcasm ~ he may have thought that he was being applauded for having a good match. I did see Ferdinand shake his hand a few seconds later ..... p'raps the "authorities" will see it for what it clearly was.

Still at the end of the day we'll never know if the sending off led to the result or not..... Fact is the match is over and only one team will be going forward to the next round.

Agreed   Never ceases to amaze me what little respect players/coaches have for the ref in football. Never use to happen in rugby but I notice these days that it's even creeping in there  noooo:
Title: Re: European Football
Post by: Snoopy on March 06, 2013, 01:19:29 PM
It's because players think they know the roolz better than the refs. Play to the whistle was how I was taught the game(s) ~ all this ball snatching and surrounding the ref would have seen us straight in the early bath.
Title: Re: European Football
Post by: Steve on March 06, 2013, 05:39:07 PM
Yes Ferdinand could have been (and apparently still could be) red carded for that sarcasm after the game had finished.  Depends if UEFA or the ref want to bring the game into disrepute by being so petty.  There is a big difference between during and after a game and imho between dissent and deliberate foul play.

Overall the ref had a good game, it's arguably not his fault that UEFA/FIFA want to insist on red cards so readily ignoring that spectators have paid good money to see entertainment.  Rugby of course sees far worse violence and has that sin bin option.

Apparently the United goal should have been ruled out for offside and Madrid shoud have had a penalty.  That's the luxury of video replay that UEFA/FIFA insist on banning during matches for some stupid fear it might expose refs as being human beings.

With Wilshere and other injuries he hasn't got a first team

A true story:  in 1974 after a season trudging round London seeing United lose all sorts of matches on route to relegation Docherty said stuff it and picked nigh on his youth team for the away match at Chelsea.  But I still went and we only went and stuffed them 3 : 1 away.  Bit scary after the match with loads of angry Chelsneanderthals.

Thought Defoe's 2 goals were brilliant but then an even better one from Eriksen

Swansea's were as good esp the free kick but a lot easier against 10

Oh yes and if we keep scraping one (own goal) to nil results we'll need it

The interviewer asked him one token question about the match and then tackled him about Fergie and that new book.  Now superb footballer Rooney may be but I've never thought he was the brightest bulb on the tree.  So I was well  eeek: when he quickly said he was grateful Fergie had admitted in the book that he was wrong what he said about him and how well he was getting on with Moyes new coaching regime.  Fergie must have nigh on self combusted and there is eff all he can do about it.

Gripping 2nd half

I was with a Chelski supporter who was having heart problems after they hit the woodwork so many times.

I told him from the start that they would score in the 1st half, put the pressure on and get the 2nd goal just before the end....He thinks I am able to predict next week's lottery numbers......I wish that was possible.

United over train imho.  Works for most players for most of the time but not all for all of the time and they get too many injuries off the field.

The squad needs rebuilding.  Several players are past best by dates

I wouldn't bet against Mourinho.  He knows how to organise a defence and United showed even Bayern can be frustrated by a good defence - just ours were shagged out after an hour

And Oscar and Hazard can take apart any side

Anyway I hope you win it

Seville goalkeeper comes off the line too many times and saves the shot......what the feck are those extra officials getting paid for?

Surely they should recommend that the penalty needs to be re-taken if the goalkeeper is at least one metre off of his line before the kick had been taken......just get their wages paid whatever happens, next step parliament or just werk for the swivel service.  noooo:

Bad isn't it.  They should just award the goal and book the goalie each time after one warning. Wouldn't take more than one sending off to kill it forever.

Apey should though.  Refs missed two penalties that Besiktas should have had.  Very close game, could easily end up as a score draw and exit for the Arsenal

Luckily Munich recovered to beat Juventus, that 4th spot for English teams is at real risk now.  Now we need Spurs to turn round their leg tomorrow

Does that mean they can be default blamed for every bad thing that happens since 1985?  Seems you think so and will fall for the standard knee jerk UEFA response

Someone needs to investigate:

Were genuine tickets being declined as supposed fakes? (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61621930)

And why UEFA immediately lied saying the problem was 'late arriving fans' ?

Scotland play Ukraine on Wednesday in a World Cup play off match.

Virtually the whole of Europe will be without doubt supporting the country that has suffered so much torment and heartache at the hands of an immoral leader and will be hoping for a decent win that would bring the much needed lift to a desperate population.

On the other hand, I'm sure there will be a few who'd prefer a Ukraine win.

Seems United are playing in Smugland tonight.  Up against the mighty Omonia what could possibly go wrong

I have to admit I'd forgotten that awful incident.  The bastards only served 12 years.

Would be good to see Moyes finally win a trophy and your first for yonks.

Seems it's only showing on BT Sport

I'm pleased for both you and Moyes but I hope they find those rogue fans before they leave the country and they spent the next 5 years rotting in a foreign jail.

It's coming back into football and it needs to be clamped down on.  Linderlof was hit by something thrown by City fans during the cup final.   We need full CCTV cover of the spectators at all major matches.  It's not like it's impossible nowadays
